We hear such a vast amount of terrible news everyday on television and radio. About the economy. About the war. About drugs and murder. The list seems so endless and it’s hard to stay upbeat and feel good about the world around us. In my humble opinion, we need to get back to basics. Being NICE is one of them. It makes you feel good to be nice to someone. It gives you a sense of well being and self worth to be nice only for the purpose of being nice. Your world seems brighter in those few moments afterwards. I have a small story to tell and I hope it inspires you to be nice to someone unexpectedly.

My sweet hubby works overseas in support of active duty military (both ours and others.) He’s home for a short period and we went to our favorite casino/hotel for a small getaway. The next morning we were standing in line at the Starbucks located inside. The lady in front of us was having a hard time paying for her coffee…she didn’t have enough cash, her credit cards weren’t going through and her comp cards were not accepted in the Starbucks, so I nudged him to walk up and offer to pay for her coffee. She was immediately relieved and told him she’d be sure to “pay if forward” for him and thanked him profusely. Here’s the real story. My sweet hubby is typically male (knows more about sports and tools and the latest BBQ efforts than anything else) and was totally unaware of this concept. I was SO PROUD of him for doing it. I explained it to him as we were walking out with our own coffees and it really made his day. He felt his own goodness in being nice, paying it forward, and it won’t be a day he’ll ever forget.

What does this blog post have to do with Emma’s Everything? Wellll….nothing really. I guess I just want our customers to feel good and have a smile in their hearts. I want to be NICE today.

We’d also like to thank our local photographers who graciously allowed the seniors to use their photos for their invitations. We have some wonderfully talented photographers in this region. We are so proud of you guys! NOTE TO 2011 SENIORS: Please help us help you and get your invitation orders in as soon as you can this next year! If you want your senior pictures used, please go ahead and contact your photographer and get their permission for its use. Or better yet, just request permission when you have them taken!! We’ll need it IN WRITING for your file. We look forward to working with you and hope you have a wonderful senior year!!

Enjoy the pics…and please forgive me for the blurry night pics as I’m not used to taking pictures outside in the dark. But, you will still get an idea of just how beautiful this was to see firsthand and how humbling it was to look at all the luminaries and KNOW that each bag represented a life lost in the civil war battle here (specifically 12,000)…if you can picture someone laying there instead of each bag, it truly brings home the reality of the number 12,000. There are no words for that kind of loss. The wonderful volunteers who put their hearts and efforts into this project…THANK YOU. It’s an amazing tribute and a wonderful way to honor them. Mark your calendars for next year to attend Corinth’s Grand Illumination and Holiday Celebration…you won’t regret it!!
